The simplest way we have found is to take the NJ turnpike to NY 87 N, and follow GPS
directions until you get into the Lake George area.
From the NY/NJ area, the drive is about 5.5 hours.
The directions should be the same, just take 287 all the way up to 87 N.
Please note - Cell phone coverage in Vermont can be spotty -
so if you are reliant on GPS maps, please make sure you download your maps
them before you leave! Vermont does also have some dirt roads (Class 4 Roads),
so do not be too shocked if you come across these
The Amtrak Vermonter Line runs from DC to Northern Vermont, stopping in NYC on the way. You would get off at Montpelier, VT stop which is about 30 minutes from the Stowe area. The train ride is approximately 7.5 hours.
Vermont has no shortage of natural beauty. There are tons of hikes, biking trails, and that have kayak and boat rentals, and allow for fishing. Stowe Pinnacle or Sterling Pond (Jeffersonville) for a more challening hike. Bingham Falls is a quick but rewarding hike in Stowe that we highly suggest!
Yes, those Von Trapp's! They offer official tours on their website, which can be booked at https://www.trappfamily.com/tours.htm. They have an amazing piece of property, and you if you are not staying at the resort, you are able to purchase day passes to use their hiking tails, visit the brewery, or just walk around the grounds.
Stowe has something for everyone, which is precisely why we chose this area. For those not so into nature - don't worry! Stowe has plenty of restaurants, bars, and shopping - all with beautiful views. The Stowe Recreation Path is a great option for those who want some casual walking or biking. Some great restaurants we love are Piecasso's Pizzeria, The Bench, and Doc Ponds. Make sure you check out the historical side of town, on Rt 100 near the Stowe Community Church.
Some local breweries include The Alchemist, Trapp Family Brewery, & Idletyme Brewery. If you want to go on a daytrip, Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend (about 50 minutes) is referred to as one of the best in the world.
We do suggest one person in your group has a car. There is not much public transportation in the area, and ubers will not be available . We will have shuttles available for after the wedding and after party.
Yes, you may leave you car parked at the venue overnight, just pick it up the following morning. Shuttles will be going back to the Resort at Smuggler's Notch at the end of the night.
We would love for you to make a vacation out of this! We will have a welcome reception for all of our guests Thursday night. We plan on being in Vermont from Tuesday-Sunday.
Guests are expected to get themselves to the church if they plan on going. All guests, regardless if you are staying at the resort or not, are invited to take the shuttle buses from The Smuggler's Notch Resort. The schedule is as follows:
4:15PM: Shuttles meet at the welcome sign at Smuggler's Notch Resort, on to the Barn at Smuggler's Notch.

Cocktail attire is requested - we suggest dresses for the ladies, slacks and optional jacket for the men. Please dress respecfully if you will be attending the church ceremony.
This will be more casual, no formal sit down dinner. Think sundresses for the ladies, short sleeve button down for the men.
Expect comfortable temperatures during the day, around 75. At night expect low 60s/high 50s.
The welcome party will have a cash bar with non-alcholic drinks on us. Please bring cash if you plan on drinking! The wedding reception will be a full open bar.
Yes, kids are welcome! If you'd like to bring them for the weekend, but not to the reception, there are several babysitting services available at the resorts nearby.
